It has been a rough month with this cute little girl. on Saturday, October 17th we gave her a bottle of Enfamil formula that very quickly had her struggling to breathe. She was rushed by ambulance to the ER and treated for an extreme allergic reaction to milk. We took her to an allergy specialist on Monday who said it wasn't milk but an allergy to the nipple on the bottle. Well, against my better judgement I believed him and in turn covered her in Avenno lotion(which contains milk) and it burned her skin! I was so mad with myself, and so I demanded her pediatrician to order allergy testing for her.
Well, after 2 blood draws (because the lab ruined the first sample) we got the results. She is allergic to: milk, eggs, peanut, and wheat.
Due to the number of allergies and severity of them she has been switched to soy formula. She is such a tough and happy baby. She has had really dry skin since birth because of my diet, and she still slept well and was happy even though she was having daily reactions. Her skin is now beautiful and she is doing great on the bottle!
In the last month she has discovered many things! She found her voice-it is so cute to hear her talk in her crib after she wakes up, and the way she tries to carry-on conversations with me. She also scooches around the room and her crib, she is on the move!! She is also working on her first tooth-I can see it peeking through the gums on the top! And she loves the bath-she lays in it splashing and giggling!! And her favorite thing is her Johnny Jumper Exo Saucer! It is so fun to watch her play and bounce in it! Kayla also enjoys watching "Yo Gabba Gabba"! The biggest grin shines on her face as soon as DJ Lance appears on screen! She is barely tipping the scales at 14 pds. 7 ozs. and is a lengthy 24 1/2 inches! She is wearing 3-6 month clothes due to her height!
And if switching to the bottle wasn't enough she has started eating rice cereal. Her first feeding she kept grabbing for the spoon!!
I am so glad this last month is over it has been a very bumpy and scary month for her. Thanks goodness for prayers and inspiration that has helped guide me through the tough decisions for her. And I am so grateful to a very supportive husband, mother, and friends who have helped keep me going when I wanted to give up trying to figure it all out!!
